Great atmosphere near campus, friendly staff...better food and cold beer...go with all your friends...
I never plan to eat there again. My boyfriend and I decided to grab lunch together this summer, and lunch hour is from 12-1pm for those that work (which is most students in the summer!). We each got the soup, salad and wrap deal for 9.99, trying to search for something with minimal grease on the menu. The soup of the day was carrot soup, but the waiter came back and informed us it tasted funky so he would serve us onion soup instead which usually costs more. Ok whatever. So we had the onion soup (finally, around 20 to 1) and it was reeeeally salty. I couldn't finish it so I gave it to my bf, who said he would try to. Meanwhile, it's about 10 to 1pm, and we both have to be back, so I went and asked the guy when our wraps would be ready, since we have to get back to work, etc. He looked surprised and was like "Oh! Ok yeah I think they should be ready now actually" and within 5 seconds came to our table with the two wraps and salad. So I reach for a fork to eat my salad, and realise we have no cutlery! So I go tell our waiter, and he gets some and hands them to me. We just start eating, then he comes up to see if he had forgotten anything else... Things at this point appeared to be ok. Then we tried the salad. I don't know if he didn't shake the bottle of dressing, but it just tasted like oil- ie: gross. We put vinegar and a bit of salt and pepper in hopes to turn it into some kind of vinaigrette, with no luck. (I tried to eat most of it and my bf said the expression on my face made me look like I was in pain.) So anyway we give up on that and then I go to catch our bills. My bf leaves to get back to work close to on time (1:05) and I go to pay the bill. The bills were seperate, which is fine, but our waiter now has trouble adding it up. After failing twice doing addition in his head, he uses a calculator. The total came to 28.26, which I found to be a bit much (my iced tea cost around 2.48!). Then, he had to swipe my card in the machine 4 or 5 times so the machine would register it (and he assured me it's the machine, not my card). Despite being as put off as I was, I didn't have the heart to just break into a rant at the guy so I just didn't tip, guessing that he would figure it out. --and I was a waitress for 3 years. I know what it's like and I ALWAYS tip 15%. This just was not acceptable.
I think the name has changed to 'The House.' Either way, this place has the best Poutine in town...hands down! I have taken all my US visitors here to try it. As far as the rest of the food, I havent been impressed. But, it is a bar before anything else. Dont look for anything healthy on the menu.
Great place, good poutine, good beer at a great price, cheaper then most places around it (by the pitcher). They make pitches of mixed drinks too. Fooseball table, patio, and good music! recommended!
Awesome poutine!!! Really cozy and friendly. Great prices and food specials...we will keep going back.
Good vibe. Good Food.
It's got great poutine, home cut fries, good (and cute) service, and above
all cheap!! They have 10 dollar pitchers of Molson Canadian and on top of that
daily specials and cheap foosball....$20 bucks goes a long way there.
It's not the best looking bar in Ottawa and could use a reno but other than
that I would recommend it for a pub experience.
